Originally from Waxahachie, Joe graduated from the University of North Texas in 2001 with a Bachelor of Accounting. He became a CPA in 2004 and earned a Master of Taxation from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2008. He went on to complete the Certified Financial Planner™ program through the College for Financial Planning and in 2016 became a CFP.
Joe’s experience includes two decades of tax preparation and planning. He started his career at BDO Seidman, LLP in Dallas. He also spent five years in the tax department at Alcon Laboratories, Inc. in Fort Worth before starting Averett Financial, LLC in 2014. A member of the Texas Society of CPAs, Joe is a passionate listener of the Dave Ramsey radio show.
Joe and his wife, Sara Averett, live in Fort Worth with their two children. They attend Christ Chapel Bible Church and volunteer in several areas. Through the years, Joe and Sara have enjoyed serving together in Christ Chapel’s pre-marriage mentoring program, the Choose Life 5K, Crown Financial Ministries, Mayfest, and various other service projects.
Joe has completed multiple marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He enjoys playing competitive indoor and outdoor soccer, hiking, and skiing. As an avid fisherman, Joe is always on a quest to catch "the big one!"
